Megesta is a chemical similar to the female hormone progesterone. Megesta helps to treat loss of appetite and weight loss in people with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome or also known as AIDS. Megesta is also used in hormone replacement therapy. Megesta works to start menstruation by replacing the natural progesterone that some women are missing.
