What Is the Right dose of Generic Levitra for Me?

Regular Dose of vardenafil (Levitra)

Levitra is a sexual enhancement pill. It is particularly used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). It causes erections only during sexual excitement. It does not work in the absence of arousal and does not increase sexual desire. This pill can work more efficiently if a proper dose is followed.

The general suggested starting dose of Levitra is 10 mg, taken orally around 60 minutes before sexual activity. In special conditions, the dose may be increased to a maximum recommended dose of 20 mg or decreased to 5 mg depending on usefulness and side effects. The maximum dose should not exceed one tablet in 24 hours. It can be taken with or without food.

Since older people are at increased risk of serious effects they should start a dose of 5 mg of this pill particularly in patients more than 65 years of age.

Your doctor may advise you of some dosage modification of Levitra if you are taking potent CYP3A4 inhibitors such as ritonavir, indinavir, ketoconazole, itraconazole, saquinavir, atazanavir, and clarithromycin. If you take ritonavir or indinavir substantially while taking Levitra, it can increase plasma concentrations of generic vardenafil . The dose change is also essential if you are taking moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors such as erythromycin.

If you are receiving ritonavir, you should not take more than 2.5 mg Levitra in a 72-hour period. Those who take indinavir, saquinavir, atazanavir, ketoconazole 400 mg daily, itraconazole 400 mg daily, and clarithromycin, should not use more than a single dose of 2.5 mg Levitra in a day.

If you have prostate problems or high blood pressure, for which you are using alpha-blockers, caution is needed. As a result it is essential for you to initiate a lower dose of impotence drug.

In patients taking ketoconazole 200 mg daily, itraconazole 200 mg daily, and erythromycin, a single dose of 5 mg Levitra has been approved in a day.

Simultaneous use of these two drug classes can lower blood pressure considerably causing symptomatic hypotension (e.g., fainting) in some patients. Concomitant treatment should be initiated only if the patient is stable on his alpha blocker therapy. In those patients who are stable on alpha-blocker therapy, levitra should be initiated at a dose of 5 mg.

If you have mild hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh A), and you want to take levitra, you can take it without any adjustment in the dose. But patients who have moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh B) eliminate vardenafil in decreased amounts. If you have this condition you need a starting dose of 5 mg of this drug. You should not take more than 10 mg at any cost. The consequence of taking this pill has not been assessed in patients with severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh C).If you have mild (CL cr  = 50-80 ml/min), moderate (CL cr  = 30-50 ml/min), or severe (CL cr<30 ml/min) renal problem, you need no dose adjustment. This medication has not been studied in patients who require renal dialysis.
