Cilamin, Penicillamine

Cilamin is used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and Wilson's disease.

Cilamin works to remove excess copper in people who have the inherited condition called Wilson's disease. Cilamin is known as a chelating agent that binds to excess copper and removes it from the blood stream. Cilamin also works by blocking the action of chemical messengers which are responsible for inflammation and thus slows the progress of the side effects of joint diseases

Patients who take Cilamin may suffer from such side effects;

Protein in urine,
Reduced blood platelets
Fever,
Joint pain,
Lesions on the face, neck, scalp
Skin rash
