Cyproterone acetate is used in the treatment of androgen-related conditions like acne, hirsutism or excessive hair growth, early-onset puberty, and prostate cancer, as a component of hormone therapy for transgender women, and in oral contraceptives as well.
How it Works
Cyproterone acetate is known as an antiandrogen and progestogen.Cyproterone acetate blocks the effects of androgens like testosterone in the body, Cyproterone acetate works by preventing it from interacting with the androgen receptor (AR), and by reducing the production by the gonads and lowering the concentrations in the body.Cyproterone acetate has progesterone-like effects by activating the progesterone receptor as well.
