Introduction
This medication is anti-inflammatory in nature. It is a non-steroidal drug and is usually recommended for painful inflammatory conditions. This drug is, however, banned in India as it had an adverse effect on the liver, but still in some countries people are still using it.
Use
Nimesulide is mostly used in painful inflammatory conditions. It is used in the treatment of severe short term pain and also in Dysmenorrhoea, a condition known as period pain. This medicine can be taken in case of severe back pain, post operation pain, osteoarthritis, etc. Some physicians also recommend to intake this drug during fever. It should not be taken for long term pain such as chronic arthritis.
Dosage and administration
This medicine should be taken orally. It is a 100mg tablet and must be taken with food followed by a glass of water. It is mostly recommended to take 2 doses of this tablet in a day. There should be a gap of 12 hours between the doses and it should be taken at the same time of the day regularly. Continue the medication for the full course and do not discontinue the medicine once you start feeling well without the consultation of a doctor. Take this medicine exactly as directed by a physician, in case you miss a dose, do not try to combine 2 doses at the same time. Skip the missed dose and continue with the normal schedule.
Warning
Inform the doctor about the patient’s medical history, such as diabetes, kidney failure, liver cirrhosis, etc. prior to the intake of this medicine.
As this drug causes dizziness, therefore the patient should avoid work which requires alertness such as driving or using machines.
Do not smoke or consume alcohol while on medication as they may result in reduced effectiveness.
Using this medication can lead to vomiting and severe diarrhea, hence it may lead to dehydration. It is recommended to drink plenty of water and intake lot of fluids to stay hydrated.
Do not take this medicine during pregnancy or if you are a breastfeeding mother. However, if it is extremely important to have this medicine, then consult a doctor prior to intake.
