Sitagliptin is known as a dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitor. Sitagliptin operates by reducing the amount of glucagon and increases the amount of insulin produced by the pancreas to coltrol the blood sugar levels in the body. Glucagon causes the liver to produce more sugar, so by Sitagliptin reducing the amount of glucagon in the body, this also helps to reduce the levels of glucose in the blood.
