Ampicillin is known as an antibiotic. Ampicillin prevents the synthesis of a substance in the bacterial cell wall called peptidoglycan, which provides the cell wall with the strength required for survival of bacteria in human body. thus without this substance the bacterial cell is not able to survive killing the cell and the infection stops from spreading.

Ampicillin is a popular antibiotic which is used for the treatment of bacterial infection. It is classified as an important drug under the penicillin group. It treats bacterial infections such as pneumonia, urinary tract infection, bronchitis, respiratory tract infection etc. It is a powerful medicine and its intake depends on the severity of the infection and must be taken when absolutely necessary as it has many side effects. However, it effectively cures any form of bacterial infection.
It is available in the form of a capsule. It is an antibiotic which can be used in the treatment of wide variety of bacterial infections. It inhibits the growth of bacteria in the body. It treats various bacterial infections such as urinary tract infection, gall bladder infection, bronchitis, respiratory tract infection, ear infection, stomach infection etc. It is used only to treat bacterial infection and will have no effect on viral infections such as cold, cough and flu. Overuse of this drug will have no effect or reduced effect on the infection.
Dosage and administration
Ampicillin capsules are mostly available in strengths of 250 mg and 500mg. Usually 250 mg capsules are given to children whereas 500 mg capsules are for adult doses to fight against the bacterial infection. Usually 2 capsules must be taken per day. Depending on the severity of the infection and the doctor’s prescription a maximum of 4 capsules can be taken. However it must be remembered that there must be an interval of 6 hours between 2 doses. It must be taken exactly as directed by the physician. Antibiotics must be taken as a full course which consists of 12 capsules. Do not stop it in between the medication without consulting a doctor. The whole capsule must be swallowed followed by a glass of normal water.
People with HIV/AIDS must consult a doctor before taking this capsule. Pregnant ladies and breast feeding mothers should inform doctor prior to medication. Avoid consuming alcohol while undergoing medication.
It is recommended to inform the physician in case of any prior allergies or allergies caused by the medication. Inform the doctor regarding any medical history such as liver ailments or kidney diseases.
There are various side effects a person can be subject to due to intake of Ampicillin which are as follows: - Acute diarrhoea with severe stomach pain. Inhibits formation of white blood cells. Skin rashes and blisters. Weakness in muscles and fatigue. Dry mouth. Reduction in platelet count in the body. Swelling of the tongue. Nausea, dizziness and vomiting. Less urination. Fever with chills, severe headache and sore throat.
Ampicillin has to be stored at room temperature away from children and pets. Ampicillin has to be kept away from direct sunlight, heat, moisture and cold.
