Dutas, Dutasteride 0.5 mg

Dutas is used in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in older men.

Dutas blocks the enzyme called 5-alpha reductase which helps in the conversion of the hormone testosterone to the more potent hormone dihydrotestosterone. Dihydrotestosterone is responsible for making the prostate enlarged. Therefore, a reduced amount of dihydrotestosterone with the help of Dutas causes the prostate to shrink, this helps in the passing of urine more easily.

Patients who take Dutas may suffer from such side effects;

Erectile dysfunction,
Impotence,
Noticeably reduced libido,
Decreased volume of semen released when ejaculating,
Body hair loss or growth of scalp hair,
Enlargement or tenderness of the breasts
