Diltiazem is known as a calcium channel blocker. It works by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions thus blocking the action of calcium on the heart and blood vessels. This then directly reduces the blood pressure and abnormally fast heartbeat. Diltiazem helps to lower the strain the heart has to go through to fulfill the oxygen requirement of the body.
